On 19 September, Chuxiong Jinjiang Energy Group, the People’s Government of Lufeng City, and Shanghai Electric (Anhui) Energy Storage Technology Co., Ltd. signed a cooperation agreement to jointly develop a major vanadium flow battery (VFB) industrial project in Lufeng City, Yunnan Province, China.

Lai Youchang, Secretary of the CPC Lufeng Municipal Committee, underscored the city’s unique advantages in location, abundant vanadium-titanium resources, and supportive investment environment. He emphasized that the project marks a significant step in transforming Lufeng’s natural resource strengths into an advanced industrial cluster, setting the stage for the city to become a national benchmark in the vanadium redox flow battery sector.
Yang Linlin, Vice Chairman and General Manager of Shanghai Electric (Anhui) Energy Storage Technology, highlighted the company’s position as a leader in power equipment manufacturing and energy storage. With a complete VFB industry chain and over 1GW of system supply experience, Shanghai Electric will leverage this collaboration to establish a strategic base in Southwest China while expanding into Southeast Asian markets.
Lai Yuming, Vice Chairman and General Manager of Chuxiong Jinjiang Energy Group, affirmed that the partnership demonstrates the company’s commitment to green and low-carbon development and aligns with China’s “dual carbon” goals. He pledged full dedication to making the project a model of government–enterprise collaboration and a driver of industrial upgrading.
Under the agreement, the project will be implemented in two phases:
- Phase I: RMB 200 million investment to build a production line with an annual capacity of 15,000 m³ of vanadium electrolyte, with a 12-month construction period.
- Phase II: RMB 50 million investment to construct a facility with an annual output of 1,000 tons of high-purity vanadium pentoxide, also within a 12-month timeframe.
By combining resources and expertise, the three parties aim to strengthen, extend, and complement the VFB industry chain, accelerate technological innovation, and establish a world-class green energy storage hub in Southwest China.
