On August 31, Shanghai Electric Energy Storage Technology Co., Ltd. successfully achieved full-capacity grid connection of its 12MW/48MWh vanadium flow battery (VFB) energy storage project at the Shanghai Wujing Cogen Power Station.
From equipment delivery to commissioning, the project was completed in record time — with all on-site deliveries finalized within 15 days, and installation, debugging, and grid connection completed in just 7 days. This milestone highlights Shanghai Electric’s large-scale production capabilities and exceptional on-site operations and commissioning expertise.

The project adopts Shanghai Electric’s independently developed 500kW–2MWh dual-layer containerized VFB system. Featuring a prefabricated outdoor cabin design, the system is space-saving, highly integrated, environmentally adaptable, cost-efficient, and environmentally friendly. It provides long-term security for grid stability while meeting the high-safety, high-reliability requirements of Shanghai as a megacity and a leading hub for advanced new energy storage applications.
Once in operation, the project enables four hours of rated charge and discharge, ensuring rapid power release during peak demand periods. By serving as a reliable “energy reservoir,” the system strengthens peak-shaving and supply security in Wujing and across Shanghai, supporting the region’s green energy transition and structural upgrade.
As Shanghai Electric’s flagship demonstration project in the city, this development has strong strategic significance for expanding new energy storage markets in Shanghai and the broader Yangtze River Delta region. The successful full-capacity grid connection of the 12MW/48MWh VFB project represents a landmark achievement in the integration of technological innovation and real-world application, setting a new benchmark for the industry and providing valuable experience for future projects.
Looking ahead, Shanghai Electric remains committed to its innovation-driven strategy, continuously building new energy storage technology and industry strongholds. By enhancing its capabilities and delivering greater value to the sector, the company will continue to support the construction of a safe, green, low-carbon, and sustainable energy system, contributing to China’s “dual carbon” goals.
