100MW/600MWh Vanadium Flow Battery Energy Storage Project Launched

On 16 January, the inaugural work meeting for the Linzhou Fengyuan 300MW/1000MWh Independent Shared Energy Storage Project was successfully held at the National University Science Park in Henan Province. Attendees included key representatives from Linzhou Fengyuan Energy Storage Co., Ltd., Enerflow Technology Co., Ltd., SEPCOIII Electric POWER Construction Co., Ltd, Northeast Electric Power Design Institute Co., Ltd. of China Power Engineering Consulting Group, Henan Tuopu Engineering Construction Supervision Co., Ltd. and Fenghui International Project Management Co., Ltd.

The meeting marked the official commencement of the "Linzhou Fengyuan 300MW/1000MWh Independent Shared Energy Storage Project," with the comprehensive deployment of the project's construction plan and the establishment of a coordination mechanism to ensure timely execution. The 2025 implementation schedule for various project segments was finalized, ensuring all tasks progressed as planned.

Project Overview

Located in the Hongqiqu Economic and Technological Development Zone in Linzhou, the project spans approximately 143 acres. It includes the construction of a 100MW/600MWh vanadium flow battery energy storage system, a 200MW/400MWh lithium iron phosphate battery energy storage system, a 220kV step-up substation, and transmission lines.

Key technical highlights include:

Vanadium Flow Battery System

  • Comprises multiple 42kW stacks, each with a storage capacity of 500kWh.
  • Technical requirements:
    • Cycle life ≥ 3,000 cycles.
    • Retains ≥ 90% of rated power output during stack failures.
    • Charge/discharge efficiency ≥ 85%.
    • Energy density meeting industry standards.
    • Response time < 30 seconds.
    • Designed lifespan of ≥ 20 years.

Lithium Iron Phosphate Battery System

  • Total nominal capacity distributed across multiple battery systems.
  • Individual battery cells have a minimum capacity of 314Ah.
  • Nominal capacity per unit: 5MWh.
  • Utilizes liquid cooling technology.

Infrastructure Development

  • New 220kV step-up substation with single-circuit 220kV transmission lines.
  • Construction of a centralized control center and a multi-story steel-structured office and living area, covering 5,000 square meters.

The Linzhou Fengyuan 300MW/1000MWh project highlights the transformative potential of vanadium flow battery technology in large-scale energy storage. Its exceptional cycle life and robust performance make it a key component in supporting clean energy adoption and grid modernization.
