Chengde Xinxin Vanadium Titanium Energy Storage Technology Co., Ltd. has signed an agreement to establish a gigawatt (GW)-scale vanadium flow battery (VFB) manufacturing project in the Beijing-Tianjin ZGC Tech Town, marking a significant step in expanding China's long-duration energy storage manufacturing capacity.

The project was announced during the launch of the Beijing-Tianjin ZGC Tech Town Development Plan (2026–2035), where twelve major industrial projects were signed to support regional innovation and advanced manufacturing. Among these, the GW-scale vanadium flow battery production facility represents one of the key investments in the new energy sector.
The new facility will focus on the mass production of next-generation vanadium flow batteries, leveraging the Science City's research infrastructure, pilot-scale development capabilities, and industrial ecosystem to accelerate commercialization of advanced energy storage technologies. The company plans to invest RMB 650 million (approximately US$90 million) in the project.
Xinxin Vanadium Titanium is one of China's leading vanadium flow battery companies, benefiting from substantial domestic vanadium and titanium resources. Its products are already exported to international markets, including Spain and Bulgaria, demonstrating growing global demand for long-duration energy storage solutions.
According to Liu Shengnan, Chief Executive Officer of Chengde Xinxin Vanadium Titanium Energy Storage Technology Co., Ltd., the investment will enable the company to upgrade its existing technologies while developing customized vanadium flow battery systems for emerging applications such as artificial intelligence data centres.
"vanadium flow batteries offer a service life of 20–25 years, provide 4–16 hours of energy storage, and eliminate the fire and explosion risks associated with many conventional battery technologies. In addition to traditional grid-scale energy storage, we are expanding their application to AI computing centres to deliver smarter energy management and ensure a stable power supply for national computing infrastructure."
The CEO added that locating the project within the Beijing-Tianjin ZGC Tech Town provides access to an integrated innovation platform spanning scientific research, pilot testing, large-scale manufacturing, and demonstration applications, enabling faster technology development and commercialization.
The new manufacturing base is expected to strengthen China's supply chain for long-duration energy storage while supporting the deployment of vanadium flow batteries in utility-scale storage, renewable energy integration, industrial power systems, and next-generation digital infrastructure. The project also reflects the growing recognition of vanadium flow batteries as a safe, long-life storage technology capable of supporting the transition to low-carbon electricity systems.
