At the 9th Silk Road International Exposition, held in Xi’an, Shaanxi Province, China Sodium Energy and the People’s Government of Dingbian County officially signed an agreement for the development of a new energy industrial park. The RMB 970 million (approximately USD 134 million) investment will support the construction of a production base with an annual output capacity of 500 MWh of vanadium redox flow battery (VFB) systems.

The signing ceremony took place on 22 May during the Dingbian County Investment Promotion Conference, part of the broader Silk Road Expo. Themed “Deepening Cooperation, Pursuing Development,” the event attracted more than 100 attendees, including provincial and municipal leaders, industry experts, and corporate representatives.
Ms. Lin Ying, Chair of Hanlin Holdings Group and General Manager of China Sodium Energy, signed the agreement on behalf of the company. The project marks a significant milestone in China Sodium Energy’s strategy of “technology decentralization and western manufacturing expansion.”
Located at the intersection of Shaanxi, Gansu, Ningxia, and Inner Mongolia, Dingbian County is a strategic hub connecting northwestern and northern China. It boasts abundant renewable resources, including wind and solar energy, with a total approved new energy capacity of 7.88 GW—6.18 GW of which is already connected to the grid. In addition, the region has proven reserves of 40 billion tons of coal, 300 billion cubic meters of natural gas, and 6.5 million tons of annual oil production. Its 98 km² of salt lake resources also support its strong energy sector foundation.

With a 2024 regional GDP of RMB 43.03 billion, Dingbian County has shown above-average growth in fixed asset investment and consumer spending. As part of China’s Belt and Road Initiative, the county has implemented favorable business policies and invested heavily in infrastructure, including a high-speed railway connection to Xi’an and a 4C-grade civil airport currently under construction.
The new energy industrial park project will enhance local industrial capabilities and accelerate the commercialization of vanadium-based energy storage technologies in western China.
