The construction of the Dunhuang BoFan Energy Storage GWh-scale Vanadium Flow Battery Production Base and the Dunhuang Vanadium Industry Chain Project has officially begun. The ceremony, which took place on 12 October 2024, marks a significant milestone in integrating local vanadium and renewable energy resources, driving sustainable energy development in the region.

The project is a collaboration between Dunhuang's abundant vanadium resources and the proprietary vanadium battery technology of Chengde Xinxin Vanadium Titanium Energy Storage Technology Co., Ltd. With an investment of CNY 1 billion (approximately USD 137 million), the production base will establish a 1GW vanadium flow battery energy storage system production line. This will harness both the wind and solar energy resources of Dunhuang and the surrounding region, contributing to the city's growth as a comprehensive renewable energy hub.
Prominent officials and industry leaders attended the groundbreaking ceremony. Among the attendees were prominent figures such as Zhang Jianyong, Chairman of Chengde Wanlitong Group, and Chen Donghui, Deputy Secretary General of the Vanadium Branch of the China Iron and Steel Research Institute. They expressed their support for the initiative.
The new vanadium flow battery production base will play a crucial role in advancing Dunhuang's renewable energy capabilities, enhancing the city's position in the national and global energy storage industry.
