On February 24, Weifang launched the 2025 Spring Major Project Construction Promotion Conference, marking the beginning of a new era of high-quality development. Among the 272 key projects announced, the New Energy Storage Battery Production and Application Industrial Park in Weifang High-Tech Zone took center stage, highlighting the city’s commitment to innovation and sustainable energy.

The industrial park, spanning 1,280 acres with a total investment of RMB 5 billion, is one of Shandong Province’s key projects for 2025. Designed to be a leading smart energy equipment manufacturing hub, the park will integrate vanadium flow batteries, flywheel energy storage systems, and hybrid renewable energy storage solutions. The facility will attract top-tier research and testing institutions, as well as a full supply chain of upstream and downstream enterprises.
Project Highlights:
- Phase One: Covering 170 acres with an investment of RMB 1.6 billion, this phase will focus on constructing advanced energy storage equipment production workshops and a cutting-edge R&D and testing center. It will feature China’s leading flow battery and hybrid energy storage production lines, and establish a national-level energy storage demonstration power station, expected to be operational by June 2026.
- Economic Impact: Upon full completion, the park will host over 40 enterprises, producing 30,000 sets of green, low-carbon smart energy equipment and new energy storage batteries annually, with a total charging and discharging capacity of 350 million kWh per year.
- Strategic Partnerships: The project collaborates with industry giants such as CHN Energy and State Power Investment Corporation, leveraging national-level energy storage demonstration projects and key provincial laboratories to develop China’s first market-oriented 100MW vanadium flow battery independent energy storage station and Shandong’s first long-duration flow battery storage station.
- Projected Outcomes: The project is expected to generate RMB 10 billion in annual revenue, RMB 1 billion in profits, and RMB 600 million in tax contributions, while creating 1,000 new jobs.
The groundbreaking of this industrial park marks a significant step in Weifang’s strategic transformation, reinforcing its role as a key player in China’s renewable energy sector. As outlined in the 2025 Citywide Work Mobilization Conference, Weifang is determined to drive high-quality development by prioritizing investment attraction and project construction. This initiative not only strengthens the city’s economic resilience but also fosters sustainable urban development and energy innovation.
