Guizhou Zunyi Breaks Ground on 30 Billion RMB Vanadium Flow Battery Energy Storage Industrial Chain Project

The groundbreaking ceremony for the vanadium flow battery energy storage industrial chain project was held in the Zunyi Comprehensive Bonded Zone (Zunyi CBZ) on 13 February. The project, backed by Guizhou Zhixi Technology Co., Ltd., marks a significant step in advancing the new energy industry in the region. Leaders from Zunyi City, Zunyi CBZ, and representatives from the project development companies attended the event to witness this milestone.

As Zunyi’s Xinpu New District, Zunyi CBZ, and Xinpu Economic Development Zone enter a new phase of integrated high-quality development, the project underscores the region’s commitment to energy innovation. In 2024, the area achieved an import-export volume of 7.202 billion RMB, reflecting a 34.84% growth. The establishment of the vanadium flow battery energy storage project further cements Zunyi’s position as a key player in the national and global energy storage industry.
Guizhou Zhixi Technology Co., Ltd. has committed a total investment of 30 billion RMB to the project, which will be implemented in three phases: an initial 5 billion RMB investment, followed by 15 billion RMB in the second phase, and 10 billion RMB in the third. The facility aims to establish a production base with a capacity ranging from 1GWh to 8GWh, featuring an annual output of 1GWh stack production lines, 300,000 square meters of perfluorinated ion membrane production lines, and a 1GWh integrated assembly line. Additionally, a state-of-the-art energy storage research institute, comprising a storage technology center, energy R&D center, and an exhibition hall, will be constructed to support the project’s innovation efforts.
The project has already secured its investment project filing certificate and is progressing with site design, environmental impact assessments, and other preparatory procedures. The first phase is expected to be completed within 2025, with the full project slated for completion within five years. Once operational, the initial phase will generate an annual output value exceeding 10 billion RMB, with projected export revenue surpassing 2 billion RMB. The project is also expected to create over 800 jobs, bolstering the local economy and reinforcing Xinpu New District’s vision of becoming the “Vanadium Energy Storage Capital.”
Established in 2022, Guizhou Zhixi Technology Co., Ltd. specializes in the research, development, and commercialization of vanadium flow battery energy storage solutions. The company operates an energy storage research institute, which houses four specialized research divisions and laboratories, and holds over 30 invention patents. Zhixi Technology collaborates closely with esteemed institutions such as the School of Chemical Engineering at Central South University to drive technological advancements in the field.
Chairman Jiang Xinxi of Guizhou Zhixi Technology expressed confidence in the project's success, stating, "Upon completion, this project will become a leading hub for the vanadium flow battery industry. We are dedicated to executing construction with precision and efficiency while fostering partnerships to expand our presence in both domestic and international markets. Our goal is to accelerate the adoption of vanadium flow battery technology, contributing to large-scale, integrated development in the industry and playing an active role in achieving China’s dual-carbon goals."
Officials from Zunyi Xinpu New District, Zunyi CBZ, and Xinpu Economic Development Zone emphasized the strategic importance of the project in capitalizing on the energy revolution and promoting green, low-carbon transformation. By offering the most favorable policies, optimal business environment, and strongest infrastructural support, the government aims to guarantee the successful implementation of this pioneering energy storage initiative.
