Henan Union Information Technology has successfully delivered a pioneering hybrid energy storage solution for the “Nanyang Dongfu New Materials Integrated Application Demonstration Project.” This project adopts an innovative “lithium iron phosphate (LFP) + vanadium redox flow battery (VRFB)” hybrid configuration, setting a benchmark for future large-scale energy storage applications.

Henan Dongfu New Materials Co., Ltd., based in Nanyang, Henan Province, is a leading provider of comprehensive glass container solutions. Its product portfolio spans liquor bottles, food jars, cosmetic bottles, and other glassware, serving top clients including publicly listed liquor companies such as Gujing Gongjiu, Yanghe, Xifeng Group, and Xijiu Group, as well as well-known national brands like Dayao Beverage and Zhongjing Foods. The company operates a modern production base of over 120,000 square meters, equipped with two ultra-large furnaces, 15 glass production lines, 5 coating lines, and more than 10 fully automated screen-printing lines, delivering an annual output exceeding 200 million glass bottles and containers.

Glass manufacturing is among the most energy-intensive industries, with furnaces required to operate continuously at temperatures above 1,500 °C. Electricity costs represent more than half of total production expenses, and even brief power interruptions can cause catastrophic equipment damage and significant production losses. To address these challenges, Henan Union Information Technology customized a 3MW/10MWh hybrid energy storage system comprising:

  • 2.5MW/8.359MWh LFP system – providing high energy density, rapid response, and frequency regulation support.
  • 0.5MW/2MWh VFB system – offering long cycle life (20,000+ cycles), scalable capacity, and peak-shaving capability.

This hybrid approach combines the fast-response, high-power characteristics of LFP with the long-duration, stable capacity of VFB. By integrating both technologies, the system achieves cost optimization and reliability improvements, ensuring power supply stability while supporting diverse grid services.

The successful delivery of this project sets a replicable model for hybrid storage solutions and marks a key step in advancing multi-technology applications. It underscores Henan’s leadership in new energy storage commercialization and supports the green transformation of energy-intensive industries.
