Huaneng and Haili Launch 5.4 MW Rooftop Solar and Vanadium Flow Battery Project
Construction has officially begun on a 5.4 MW rooftop solar photovoltaic project supported by an vanadium flow battery energy storage system at the vanadium materials production base of Hongyuan Vanadium Industry Co., Ltd. in Guzhang County, Xiangxi Prefecture, Hunan Province, China.

Developed through cooperation between Huaneng Group and Haili Group, the project represents an important step in the companies’ transition towards greener, lower-carbon operations and the development of integrated applications across the vanadium value chain.
A key feature of the project is the use of Hongyuan Vanadium’s own vanadium-based products in the energy storage system. This connects vanadium material production with a practical downstream energy storage application and provides technical support for the continued expansion of the company’s value chain.
The project will make productive use of previously underutilised factory rooftops to generate renewable electricity. The solar power will be consumed on site, helping to reduce energy costs and improve operational efficiency. The vanadium flow battery system will smooth fluctuations in solar generation, increase the utilisation of renewable electricity and support a more stable energy supply for the production facility.
The development is intended to become a demonstration project in Hunan Province, integrating mineral extraction and processing, vanadium material research and production, solar power generation, and vanadium flow battery energy storage. It could provide a replicable model for the low-carbon transformation of other industrial and mining enterprises.
