Panzhihua 100MW/500MWh vanadium flow battery energy storage power station demonstration project started in Panzhihua Vanadium and Titanium High-tech Zone

On the morning of 28 December, the Panzhihua 100MW/500MWh vanadium flow battery energy storage power station demonstration project implemented by State Power Investment Corporation Sichuan Company with a total investment of 1.6 billion yuan started in Panzhihua Vanadium and Titanium High-tech Zone. This is the largest vanadium flow battery energy storage demonstration project currently under construction in China. It is also an essential practice for Panzhihua City to implement the national "double carbon" strategic plan and ensure energy security. It marks a crucial step for Panzhihua to build a new energy system.

The project is located in the Panzhihua Vanadium and Titanium High-tech Zone. It includes a vanadium flow battery energy storage workshop, supporting facilities, and a booster station covering an area of approximately 50,000 square meters. The overall plan is to build a 100MW/500MWh vanadium flow battery independent shared energy storage power station. The first phase investment is about 210 million yuan, and the construction scale is 12MW/60MWh. The second phase investment is about 1.39 billion yuan, and the construction scale is 88MW/440MWh. After the project is completed, it is expected that 35,000 cubic meters of vanadium electrolyte (equivalent to 4,000 tons of vanadium pentoxide) will be used to realize the large-scale application of vanadium and titanium resources in the non-steel field.

After the project is completed, it will be connected to the power grid as independent energy storage, measured and dispatched separately, providing support for Panzhihua's new energy consumption, power system peaking, frequency regulation, backup, etc. It will effectively drive leading enterprises in vanadium battery electrolytes, battery stacks, and battery management systems to settle in the Panzhihua Vanadium Titanium High tech Industrial Park and provide a reference model for ensuring energy safety and supply and developing large-scale new energy bases in Sichuan. At the same time, the first phase of the demonstration project will also promote the development of China's vanadium battery through product comparison and technical demonstration applications, data comparison and analysis, and demonstrate technological innovations such as improving electrolyte energy density, stack current density, and system integration efficiency.
