RS Energy Completes First Phase of Vanadium Electrolyte Plant in China
22 October 2026 – RS Energy has completed the first phase of its vanadium electrolyte manufacturing facility in Panzhihua, Sichuan Province, marking a significant step in expanding the supply chain for vanadium redox flow batteries (VRFBs) used in long-duration energy storage.

The project, developed by RS Energy Technology (Panzhihua) Co., Ltd., represents a planned investment of approximately RMB 215 million (around US$30 million). Once fully operational, the facility is designed to produce 60,000 cubic metres of high-purity vanadium electrolyte annually, supplying China's domestic energy storage market and overseas customers.
Construction began in January 2026, with the first phase completed in October. The facility incorporates automated production processes, electrolyte processing systems, finished-product storage and environmental protection infrastructure.
The plant combines Panzhihua's substantial vanadium resources with the vanadium flow battery technology and quality management expertise of RS Group and LE SYSTEM.
Building Capacity for Long-Duration Energy Storage
Vanadium electrolyte is a critical component of VRFB technology, which is attracting interest for its ability to provide long-duration energy storage, support renewable energy integration and enhance electricity grid flexibility.
RS Energy said it has signed indicative agreements covering 105,000 cubic metres of vanadium electrolyte, supporting planned demonstration projects and Electrolyte-as-a-Service (EaaS) leasing applications.
The company intends to develop an integrated electrolyte business covering manufacturing, leasing, residual value assessment, recycling and regeneration, supporting the wider commercial deployment of vanadium flow batteries.
Strategic Partnerships Strengthen Industry Collaboration
The completion ceremony, held on October 20, attracted approximately 200 representatives from government agencies, research institutions, investors and industry partners.
During the event, RS Energy signed strategic cooperation agreements with five organisations, including Tianfu Jinjiang Laboratory, Panzhihua Xichuang Industrial Investment, Panzhihua Chengtou Industry and Trade, Jiangxi Hengding New Materials and Sichuan Lanfan New Materials.
Speaking at the ceremony, RS Group President Fang Yongyi described the facility's completion as the beginning of a new chapter for the company.
"Today's completion is not the end. On the contrary, today marks the true beginning of RS Energy," he said.
Supporting China's Vanadium Energy Storage Industry
With the first phase completed, RS Energy will focus on production readiness, quality assurance and operational safety while working towards its planned manufacturing capacity.
The investment also supports Panzhihua's ambition to become a major centre for China's vanadium battery industry, leveraging the region's natural resources and growing industrial ecosystem.
The new facility is expected to strengthen the vanadium electrolyte supply chain and support the broader commercialisation of long-duration energy storage technologies.
