SDEE Flow Signed the National Energy Qinghai 0.5MW/2MWh Vanadium Flow Energy Storage System Project

Recently, Shandong Electrical Engineering & Equipment Flow Storage Development Co., Ltd. (SDEE Flow), a subsidiary of China Electric Equipment Group, successfully signed the National Energy Qinghai 0.5MW/2MWh Vanadium Flow Battery Energy Storage System Project. This landmark agreement marks a breakthrough for China Electric Equipment’s vanadium flow battery integration in the Qinghai regional market.
The project, located in Xitieshan Town, Haixi Prefecture, Qinghai Province, forms part of a larger "Wide Time Scale Multi-Type Networked Energy Storage System Research" demonstration initiative. The new installation will combine seven different types of energy storage systems with a total capacity of 100MWh. The 0.5MW/2MWh vanadium flow battery system, currently the largest of its kind under construction in Qinghai, showcases advanced energy storage technology with extensive scalability, safety, and environmental benefits.
Vanadium flow battery technology leverages redox reactions of vanadium ions to convert electrical energy into chemical energy, enabling efficient storage and release. The system comprises power modules (including stacks, battery racks, and cabins), capacity modules (electrolyte and storage tanks), and electrolyte circulation systems (piping, pumps, valves, and monitoring equipment).

• Long Lifespan and Cost Efficiency: The water-based electrolyte does not degrade, and the cost is as low as 0.3 RMB/kWh for four-hour systems.
• Extreme Temperature Tolerance: Operates effectively between -35°C and 65°C.
• Eco-Friendly and Recyclable: Electrolytes are fully recyclable, with a residual system value of approximately 45%.
• High-Performance Under Load: Consistent and reliable under high-current and high-power conditions.
