Shandong High-Speed Energy Development Company has successfully connected its first independent shared energy storage project, the Shandong High-Speed Xintai 100MW/200MWh Shared Energy Storage Station, to the grid. This significant achievement signals the official commencement of the station’s operations, setting a new benchmark in energy storage development.

The project was included in Shandong Province’s New Energy Storage Program in July 2023, with construction beginning in April 2024. Supported by a total investment of ¥270 million, the station spans 32 acres and boasts an installed capacity of 100MW/205MWh, utilizing cutting-edge hybrid energy storage technology. The system integrates 29 units of 97.3MW/195MWh lithium iron phosphate batteries and a 2.7MW/10MWh vanadium flow battery unit, offering a blend of enhanced safety, large capacity, extended lifecycle, and environmental sustainability.

One of the project’s most innovative aspects is the construction of China’s first low-temperature phase-change energy storage zero-carbon building. This advanced facility incorporates photovoltaic power generation, air-source heat pumps, phase-change energy storage, and ground-based heating technologies. It achieves intelligent, zero-carbon heating and cooling operations year-round, serving as a model for green building design and functionality.

The energy storage station connects to the grid at a 110kV voltage level, significantly improving grid performance through enhanced peak shaving and valley filling capabilities. It also increases the utilization of renewable energy sources, offering energy storage capacity leasing services to distributed renewable energy projects along transportation corridors. By reducing construction costs and boosting clean energy adoption, the project establishes a pioneering model for integrated energy and transportation solutions.

This initiative aligns closely with China’s goals for achieving carbon peak and carbon neutrality, contributing to a greener, more sustainable future.

Looking ahead, Shandong High-Speed Energy Development Company aims to deepen its commitment to the renewable energy sector, with energy storage as a cornerstone of its strategic vision. The company aspires to build a world-class energy investment platform with substantial industry influence and strong brand recognition, further supporting the economic and environmental goals of Shandong Province and beyond.
