Shanghai Electric Energy Storage Technology Co., Ltd. has signed a key cooperation agreement with the People’s Government of Tancheng County for an annual 5 GWh vanadium flow battery (VFB) energy storage system integration project, marking a new step in scaling long-duration energy storage deployment to support Shandong’s green and low-carbon transition.

The agreement was announced in connection with the 2025 Shandong Green, Low-Carbon and High-Quality Development Conference, where the project was highlighted as a major industrial partnership intended to strengthen the province’s new power system by improving renewable energy flexibility and grid stability.

At an exchange event in Linyi on 16 December, Shanghai Electric Group Market Department Deputy Director Wang Yong noted the company’s growing cooperation with the region and its pipeline of local clean-energy investments. Shanghai Electric has invested in a 190 MW wind power project (Phase I) in Tancheng, expected to be commissioned by the end of the year and to deliver approximately 200 million kWh of clean electricity annually. The company is also advancing construction of a 1 GWh vanadium flow battery project in Tancheng, targeted for completion next year; once completed, the project is expected to generate around RMB 1.2 billion in output value, including RMB 10 million in tax revenue

The newly signed 5 GWh/year system integration project will leverage Shanghai Electric Energy Storage’s capabilities across battery components, manufacturing, and system integration, helping address the intermittency challenges associated with wind and solar generation and supporting the development of integrated energy storage applications across the power-source, grid, and user sides.
