Shanghai Electric’s 50MW Energy Storage Station in Jilin Commences Primary Frequency Regulation Operations

Project achieves top-tier frequency regulation performance, supporting grid stability and renewable energy integration in Northeast China

21 October 2026 – Shanghai Electric Energy Storage Technology Co., Ltd. has announced the successful commissioning of primary frequency regulation operations at the 50MW Shangdian Linhai Energy Storage Station in Baicheng, Jilin Province, strengthening the region's ability to integrate renewable energy into the power grid.

The project, developed with Shanghai Electric Energy Storage's participation, had completed its primary frequency regulation upgrade and entered operation by August 2026, when its performance was included in Jilin Province's official energy storage frequency regulation assessment.

According to the company's announcement, the station ranked among the province's top-performing energy storage facilities across key assessment indicators, demonstrating reliable performance under real-world grid operating conditions.

The project incorporates optimized coordination between its Power Conversion System (PCS) and Battery Management System (BMS), alongside improvements in control strategies and system parameters. These enhancements enable the station to respond effectively to grid frequency fluctuations.

As Baicheng expands its wind and solar power capacity, the facility is also exploring an integrated operating model combining frequency regulation and peak shaving, supporting grid flexibility while creating opportunities for diversified revenue generation.

Building on this operational experience, Shanghai Electric Energy Storage is advancing next-generation technologies, including its 2MW/1MWh vanadium flow battery frequency regulation system, introduced at the 26th China International Industry Fair. The system has undergone commercial field validation and is designed to support both primary and secondary frequency regulation.

Looking ahead, Shanghai Electric Energy Storage will continue optimizing the station's operating strategies and advancing energy storage technologies to support grid modernization, renewable energy integration and China's carbon neutrality objectives.
