The World’s First “Lighthouse Factory” in the Lithium Battery Industry, CATL’s Headquarters at Z Base, Caught Fire

Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited (CATL), the world's leading lithium battery manufacturer, today confirms a fire incident at its cutting-edge Z Base in Ningde City, Fujian Province, China. The fire, which occurred on 29 September has been successfully brought under control with no reported casualties.
The incident was reported at 11:26 AM at an independent structure within CATL’s Z Base, spanning approximately 15,000 square meters. Emergency response teams, including firefighters and relevant authorities, swiftly arrived at the scene, evacuating personnel and commencing fire suppression efforts. By 5:30 PM, the fire was significantly subdued, with smoke visibly dissipating. The roads surrounding the factory were temporarily closed as a precautionary measure, with on-site firefighting efforts continuing to ensure full safety.
CATL’s Z Base is recognized globally as the lithium battery industry's first "Lighthouse Factory" and represents the pinnacle of the company's production and manufacturing capabilities. Despite the scale of the fire, there has been no damage to personnel, and CATL Chairman Zeng Yuqun has reassured the public, stating, "The situation is under control, and there will be no significant impact on operations."
The Z Base, which was completed in 2022, houses a lithium-ion battery expansion project with an annual production capacity of approximately 16GWh. The facility's designation as a Lighthouse Factory by the World Economic Forum highlights its industry-leading automation, precision, and energy efficiency.
As of June 2024, CATL boasts three Lighthouse Factories globally, including the Ningde, Yibin, and Liyang bases, recognized as some of the world’s most advanced manufacturing facilities.
