Total Investment of 2.137 Billion Yuan! Mengneng Group’s Dengkou Renewable Energy Storage Project Launched, Utilizing Vanadium Flow Battery and Electrochemical Hybrid Energy Storage

September 9, 2024 —The groundbreaking ceremony for the Dengkou Renewable Energy Storage Project by Inner Mongolia Energy Group Co., Ltd. took place on September 5th in Wenduermaodao Gacha, Sajintaohai Sumu, Dengkou County, Bayannur City, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. The event was attended by government officials, including Deputy County Magistrate Tang Dongnian, along with representatives from the Development and Reform Commission, Transportation, and Natural Resources departments, among others. Deputy Magistrate Tang Dongnian officially announced the start of construction.

This project, with a total investment of 2.137 billion yuan, involves the construction of a 605MW/1410MWh energy storage station, utilizing a combined system of vanadium flow battery and electrochemical storage. This will be the largest single-capacity energy storage station under construction in China. It will play a crucial role in addressing renewable energy consumption, enhancing the flexibility of the power system, and improving the safety and stability of the grid. As an integral part of the new energy system, the project will significantly improve the region’s energy security and is pivotal in promoting high-quality regional economic and social development.

As of the end of 2023, China had a cumulative operational capacity of 958 electrochemical energy storage stations, with a total power output of 25GW and a total energy capacity of 50.86GWh. In 2023 alone, 486 new electrochemical energy storage stations were added, contributing 20.43GW of power and 36.81GWh of energy, surpassing the combined installed capacity of all previous years. This rapid development signifies that large-scale energy storage projects like the Dengkou Project are becoming the norm, reflecting China’s goals of achieving carbon peaking and carbon neutrality, facilitating sustainable economic and ecological development, and ensuring national energy security.
