Wontai Power has reached another important milestone in advancing long-duration energy storage with the successful delivery of the core equipment for the 11.5 MW/70 MWh Vanadium Flow Battery (VFB) Energy Storage Project at Xinjiang Huadian's Shisanjianfang Energy Storage Station in Hami, Xinjiang. The successful installation of the power modules, electrolyte storage tanks and power conversion system (PCS) integrated transformer units marks the completion of the equipment delivery phase, allowing the project to progress into on-site installation and commissioning.

The project is being implemented by a consortium comprising China Huadian Engineering Co., Ltd. and Wontai Power and forms part of a 250 MW/1,000 MWh hybrid energy storage facility that integrates lithium iron phosphate (LFP), high-voltage cascade lithium battery and vanadium flow battery technologies. The 11.5 MW/70 MWh VFB system provides six hours of continuous discharge, making it one of the industry's few commercial long-duration energy storage projects designed for six-hour operation. Upon completion, the system will fully leverage the inherent advantages of vanadium flow battery technology, delivering safe, reliable and flexible long-duration energy storage to support the integration of renewable energy into the grid.

The project further demonstrates Wontai Power's capability to deliver utility-scale vanadium flow battery systems for demanding grid applications. By providing extended-duration energy storage, the system will enhance grid flexibility, improve renewable energy utilization, strengthen peak-shaving capability and contribute to greater power system stability. As electricity systems continue to increase their reliance on renewable generation, vanadium flow batteries are becoming an increasingly important technology for delivering safe, durable and sustainable long-duration energy storage solutions.

Since delivering its first six-hour vanadium flow battery project in Zhejiang in 2023, Wontai Power has successfully deployed multiple long-duration energy storage systems across Zhejiang, Guangdong, Shandong, Hebei and Xinjiang. Its growing portfolio spans four-, five- and six-hour discharge applications and includes both building-based and fully containerized system configurations, reflecting the company's expanding expertise in system design, integration, project delivery and operational support for utility-scale energy storage.

The successful delivery of the Xinjiang Huadian Shisanjianfang project reinforces Wontai Power's position as a leading provider of vanadium flow battery technology and represents another significant step in the commercial deployment of long-duration energy storage. As the global transition to low-carbon energy accelerates, projects such as this demonstrate the critical role that vanadium flow batteries will play in enabling higher renewable energy penetration while enhancing the resilience, reliability and sustainability of modern power grids.
